What's On In July

WELCOME TO JULY!

Geelong is a mecca for phenomenal winter events. From winter wonderlands with ice skating and tobogganing to visiting pop-up planetariums and touring some of the finest Victorian wineries, Gen Fyansford residents have an abundance of exciting things to do in the local community all year round.

Here are some of our favourites for this month.

 

WINTER WONDERLAND

When: 10:00am-7:00pm, July 1st to 14th 2019
Where: Queenscliff Harbour, Wharf Street East, Queenscliff
Cost: Over 14 years old: $18, Children (6-14): $16, Children (3-5): $10

Strap on your skates and put your balance to the test these school holidays with some serious ice-skating and tobogganing fun at Queenscliff Harbour’s Winter Wonderland.

Housed within a giant marquee, the rink and toboggan run is available for day and evening seasons.

Skating sessions run for 45 minutes, so make sure you arrive 15 minutes beforehand to allow time for correct skate fitment. If you already have your own skates, then you can bring those along with you too.

After a fun skating session warm up with hot drinks and food at any of the Harbour cafés and restaurants.

Please note: You must pre-purchase tickets for both ice-skating and tobogganing either online here, at the Harbour Office, or at 360Q restaurant.

Sessions can sell out fast, so we recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.

And lastly… don’t forget to bring your winter warmers – gloves, socks, scarves and all to keep you nice and toasty throughout the day!

TASTES OF CENTRAL GEELONG

When: 5th July – 28th July, times vary dependent on venue. Check the program for details.

Indulge your senses at Tastes of Central Geelong, a 24-day festival of food, flavours and fun.

Held in various locations throughout Central Geelong, you can sample gourmet food and beverages, learn tricks of the trade from local chefs, wine and dine and participate in food themed events.

With hundreds of activities on offer, it doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned foodie or a new found food lover, young or young at heart, there’s something for everyone.

CHILDREN’S MAGIC SHOW & WORKSHOP WITH DAZZLING DAN THE MAGIC MAN

When: 10:45am – 1:00pm, 9th July 2019
Where: Bellarine Railway, 20 Symonds Street, Queenscliff
Cost: $36 Adult; $30 Concession; $26 Child (4-17yrs); $7 Toddler (1-3yrs);

Join Dazzling Dan the Magic Man for a magical experience the kids will not forget at his latest marine themed workshop.

This family special event is perfect for parents and grandparents with children who love to watch, learn about and perform magic.

It is highly recommended to book on-line to avoid disappointment as tickets sell out fast. Tickets may also be purchased at the gate on event days, unless sold out prior.

Please note that the train will depart at 10:45am sharp, so it would be a good idea to arrive 20 minutes early.

WINTER SHIRAZ WEEKEND 2019

When: July 6th & 7th (Check each winery for opening times)
Where: Geelong Wine Region, Moorabool Valley | Bellarine | Surf Coast
Cost: Free entry to the wineries. Private tours from $110.

Now returning for its fourth year, the annual Winter Shiraz Weekend is set to thrill connoisseurs with two days of exploring the versatility of Shiraz with beautiful wine, food and entertainment as the Geelong region basks in the mid-winter glow.

This exciting celebration of Geelong Wine will take place on July 6 & 7, offering guests a unique and exclusive opportunity to taste their way across a diverse selection of award-winning Geelong wineries from the Surf Coast, Moorabool Valley and Bellarine Peninsula, 28 of them to be exact.

Giving guests the chance to soak up the warmth of open fires and outdoor braziers in beautiful surroundings while showing off their award-winning Shiraz, each winery participating in the Winter Shiraz Weekend have their own unique programs. Many include the chance to ‘meet the makers’ with knowledgeable local vignerons and producers leading you on a path of wine discovery while talented chef’s match the region’s renowned cool climate wines with hearty winter fare.

The 2019 program promises to be a feast of food and wine experiences, gourmet produce, local music and wine master classes. There will be something special on offer for everyone, and the kids are welcome too.

So, come along and get cosy as you sit by the fire with a glass of wine and enjoy some reprieve from the cold. In fact, why not even book some local accommodation and make a weekend of it?

POP-UP PLANETARIUM SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

When: 10:00am-4:00pm, Saturday 20th July 2019
Where: Geelong Gallery, 55 Little Mallop Street, Geelong
Cost: Adults: $11 | Children: $6

Saturday, July 20th marks the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing.
Celebrate this significant milestone by discovering the Moon, its origin, its orbit around Earth, its phases and eclipses in an immersive planetarium experience.

Each session includes a 45-minute film, followed by a tour of the night-time sky, including the moon, planets, constellations and major stars.
Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult.
Suitable for ages 5–12 years.
